What to expect
Also known as Nossa Senhora da Esperança, the Franciscan convent originated in a sixteenth-century donation. Its former church and cloister formed the heart of the complex, which later suffered earthquake damage, secular reuse and fire.
This is a ruin rather than an operating monastery or a conventional visitor attraction. Treat it as a point of interest seen from permitted public areas, and connect its story with the nearby riverside and Portimão museum rather than expecting an interior tour.
