Igreja Matriz da Guia

Guia’s parish church is a village religious landmark with the simple lines associated with the Algarve’s post-earthquake rebuilding.

What to expect

The church was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755 and remains central to Guia’s religious life. Its understated architecture makes a useful contrast with the more decorative churches encountered in larger historic towns.

Guia is a separate inland village within Albufeira municipality. Include the church when exploring its streets and food stops, rather than assuming it is within walking distance of Albufeira’s old-town beach; the village has other small chapels that can be visited on the same outing.

Planning your visit

  • Guia is a separate village from Albufeira town.
  • Interior access follows parish and service arrangements.
