What to expect
The present church belongs to the period of rebuilding that followed the earthquake which reshaped Albufeira. Its relatively restrained exterior is part of the appeal: this is a small historic church set among the streets of the old town rather than a grand cathedral.
Pause around the church as part of an old-town walk, taking in its position above the town and shoreline. The setting is worth including even when interior access is unavailable, and pairs naturally with nearby São Sebastião and the main parish church.
Planning your visit
- This is the present Sant’Ana church, not the vanished chapel associated with the old town gate.
- Follow any service or access notices at the entrance.
