What to expect
The church traces its origins to the early sixteenth century and retains decorative stonework from that period. Its later façade and the painted and carved main altarpiece show how the building continued to develop beyond its original construction.
It is particularly easy to combine this church with a walk around the cathedral quarter. Look at the two buildings separately: their scale and decoration give different impressions of religious life in Silves, and their visitor access is managed independently.
Planning your visit
- The official heritage inventory describes a visitable church.
- Use the Rua da Sé location; do not confuse it with similarly named churches in other Algarve towns.
