Igreja de São Tiago, Estômbar

Estômbar’s parish church is a major Manueline religious landmark, with a richly worked entrance and an interior that spans later decorative periods.

What to expect

The sixteenth-century church is dedicated to São Tiago and has three naves. Its Manueline stonework is a particular reason to visit, while the carved altarpieces and tiles inside show how later generations changed the decorative setting.

Estômbar is a separate town inland from Ferragudo and Carvoeiro. The church makes a good focus for a short heritage outing there, rather than a stop to confuse with the nearby Misericórdia church or a monument on the resort seafront.
