Igreja de São Martinho, Estoi

Estoi’s parish church gives a rural counterpoint to Faro’s city churches, with a neoclassical frontage above the village square.

What to expect

Dedicated to São Martinho, Estoi’s church grew from an older religious site and was reshaped after earthquake damage. The neoclassical front is associated with the work of Francisco Xavier Fabri, while the building retains the layered story of a long-established village church.

Make it part of an Estoi outing rather than expecting to find it in central Faro. The village setting is a large part of its appeal: take time around the square and frontage, and treat an open church as an opportunity for a quiet visit around parish use.

Planning your visit

  • Estoi is inland from Faro, not in the city’s walled quarter.
  • The church is an active parish building.
