What to expect

The cathedral anchors Largo da Sé, within Faro’s old walls. Its surviving medieval elements sit alongside later carved altarpieces, tiled chapels and an historic organ, making this a rewarding stop for visitors interested in the Algarve’s decorative arts.

Give the building its own place in an old-town walk rather than treating the square as the whole visit. The interior and upper levels offer different experiences; any tower visit involves stairs and is separate from simply enjoying the architecture at street level.

Planning your visit

  • The main entrance and upper areas involve steps.
  • A cathedral visit is distinct from attending a service; follow the visitor entrance and ticket arrangements.
