A day at Praia da Alagoa / Altura.
Praia da Alagoa is the beach at Altura, in Castro Marim municipality. Both names are used for the same beach, so there is no need to treat them as separate outings. A broad dune belt separates the settlement from the sand, with formal crossings guiding visitors onto the coast.
The beach has several entrances and supported sections, making your chosen access more useful than the general beach name for directions. Decide where to arrive before arranging a lift or carrying equipment over the dunes. The long shoreline gives space for walking, while the main services stay near the beach support areas.
Parking & arrival
Castro Marim Council lists two parking areas. The principal organised car park includes designated accessible bays; use the marked layout and leave the dune vegetation and emergency routes clear.
The route to the sand
Approach through Altura and follow the beach signs. The council identifies four accesses, three with raised walkways across the dune belt to the sand.
Accessibility
The council lists adapted toilets, designated parking and amphibious chairs through the beach concessions. Assisted bathing needs the appropriate staffed support point and suitable operating conditions.
Facilities at the beach
- Toilets
- Accessible toilet facilities
- Beach support
- Beach sports area
The council identifies supported bathing areas and sports provision. Equipment and assistance are attached to individual concessions rather than every stretch of the beach.
The water & lifeguards
Use the flagged bathing zone. The council separates windsurfing and kitesurfing from the main bathing area, so keep clear of launch routes and follow the signs for each use.
Lifeguard supervision is seasonal and applies to the signed bathing area. Follow the flags and instructions displayed at that beach.
