A day at Praia do Cabeço.
Cabeço, also known as Retur, has a long sandy setting beside pine woodland on Castro Marim’s coast. It is a separate beach approach from the busier developed frontage at Monte Gordo. The broad shoreline suits a day spent between the supported beach area and a walk along the sea.
Use the named Cabeço or Retur entrance for directions rather than simply aiming for the nearest bit of coastline. The woodland and dunes are part of the visit’s appeal, and formal paths protect that landscape while getting you to the beach. Choose a supported entrance when food, toilets or assisted access matter to the day.
Parking & arrival
Parking serves the signed Cabeço/Retur approach from the EN125 and Retur area. Keep emergency access clear and follow the marked parking layout rather than leaving vehicles on dune edges.
The route to the sand
Follow the signposted beach road and use the formal dune access. The council describes a direct connection with Retur and the EN125, distinct from the approaches to neighbouring beaches.
Accessibility
Castro Marim identifies adapted beach provision and amphibious-chair assistance through named Cabeço concessions. Establish the particular support point and assistance needed instead of assuming every entrance is adapted.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Restaurants
- Beach bars
- Sunshade hire
VisitPortugal lists showers, rentals and food facilities. These belong to the supported bathing area, with operating arrangements that change outside the summer season.
The water & lifeguards
Swim within the signed bathing area and follow its flags. Keep away from sport-launch zones and do not read a calm-looking surface as a guarantee against currents.
Lifeguard supervision is seasonal and applies to the signed bathing area. Follow the flags and instructions displayed at that beach.
